Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Apartmá Juliana 1905 on Jaltská street, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place in Karlovy Vary. But you know what? Sometimes the unassuming spots totally surprise you, and this little gem absolutely did.

The building itself has this lovely early 1900s character (hence the 1905 in the name, I’m guessing), and it sits on a quiet residential street that’s actually perfect if you want to experience Karlovy Vary like a local rather than being stuck in the tourist bubble around the main colonnade. I mean, you’re still just a short walk from all the famous spa stuff – maybe 8-10 minutes to reach the Mill Colonnade where all the thermal springs are – but you get to come home to this peaceful neighborhood where you can actually hear yourself think. The check-in was surprisingly smooth, and the staff genuinely seemed to care about making sure I knew my way around the area, which honestly made such a difference.

What really got me about this place was the attention to detail in the apartments themselves. These aren’t your typical cramped hotel rooms – they’re actual apartment-style setups with proper kitchenettes (complete with real dishes, not plastic nonsense) and living areas where you can spread out after a long day of walking around the spa town. The furnishings hit that sweet spot between modern comfort and respecting the building’s historic character. And can we talk about that 9.3 rating for a second? I was skeptical at first, but after staying there, it totally makes sense. The beds are genuinely comfortable, the bathrooms are updated without feeling sterile, and – this might sound weird but it matters – the water pressure is fantastic, which you definitely appreciate after hiking around those hilly streets all day. The WiFi actually works throughout the building too, which seems basic but you’d be amazed how many places get this wrong. I also loved that the windows open properly (some of these older buildings have been “renovated” with sealed windows that make you feel trapped), so you get fresh air and can hear the gentle sounds of the neighborhood in the morning. The only tiny thing I’d mention is that if you’re planning to drive, definitely ask about parking when you book – street parking around there can get a bit tricky during peak spa season, but the staff knows all the local tricks and will point you in the right direction.
