You know what struck me first about Apartman Moravska 188? It’s actually tucked away on this quiet residential street that most tourists never find – which honestly is half the charm. I mean, you’re literally a five-minute walk from the main spa colonnade where all the chaos happens, but when you step outside your door, it feels like you’re staying in an actual Czech neighborhood instead of some touristy bubble.

The building itself has that solid, no-nonsense Central European apartment block vibe – nothing fancy from the outside, but inside it’s been thoughtfully updated without losing its character. My apartment (well, I stayed in the one-bedroom unit) had these gorgeous high ceilings and original hardwood floors that creaked just enough to feel authentic but not enough to keep you awake. The kitchen was actually functional too – not just some tiny corner setup – which came in handy since Karlovy Vary restaurants can get pricey during spa season. There’s a Tesco about three blocks down Moravska if you need groceries, and the walk takes you past this little park where locals walk their dogs in the evenings.

What really sold me on this place, though, was how the owner clearly gets what travelers actually need. The Wi-Fi worked everywhere (crucial when you’re trying to upload those spa selfies), the shower had proper water pressure, and – this might sound silly – but the blackout curtains were actually black-out curtains. You know how some places have these flimsy things that let in every street light? Not here. I slept like a rock every night, even during the summer film festival when the streets stayed lively until late. The only minor thing is that parking can be a bit tricky – it’s street parking, and during peak season you might have to circle the block once or twice. But honestly, once you’re parked, you can walk pretty much everywhere in the historic center. The mill colonnade is maybe eight minutes on foot, and you’ll pass by some of those beautiful Art Nouveau buildings that make Karlovy Vary special in the first place.

I’d definitely come back here, especially in shoulder season when the town’s quieter but all the springs are still flowing and the weather’s decent for hiking up to Diana Tower. For the price point and that 8.7 rating, it makes total sense – you’re getting a genuine local experience without sacrificing the comfort stuff that actually matters when you’re trying to relax.
