I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Apartmány Leopard on Stará Louka – I mean, it’s tucked away on this quiet street that most tourists probably walk right past on their way to the main spa district. But honestly, that turned out to be exactly what made it perfect. The building itself has this understated charm that feels authentically Karlovy Vary without trying too hard, and when you’re staying in a spa town that can get pretty touristy (especially during festival season), finding a place that locals actually respect is kind of gold.

The apartments themselves are surprisingly well thought out – whoever designed these actually gets how people travel. There’s proper counter space in the kitchenette (you’d be amazed how many places skimp on this), decent water pressure, and the beds are firm enough that you won’t wake up feeling like you slept on a marshmallow. I particularly loved the windows – they’re big enough to let in that gorgeous Czech morning light, but the street is quiet enough that you won’t get woken up by delivery trucks at 6 AM like you would closer to the main drag. The whole setup feels more like borrowing a friend’s apartment than staying in some sterile hotel room, which I mean, isn’t that what you want when you’re spending a week soaking in mineral springs and wandering cobblestone streets?

What really sold me though was the location – and I don’t mean that in the generic “convenient to everything” way that every hotel claims. You’re actually positioned perfectly between the touristy stuff and real Karlovy Vary life. Walk five minutes toward the river and you’re at Dvorak Park where locals take their evening strolls (great for people-watching, by the way). Head the other direction and you’ll hit the colonnade without fighting through the worst of the crowds that pile up near the bigger hotels. Plus – and this matters if you’re driving – parking isn’t the nightmare it is in the city center. The 9.3 rating honestly makes sense once you’ve stayed here; it’s not flashy or over-the-top luxurious, but everything just works the way it should, which is rarer than you’d think in a 3-star place.
