Apartment Irma

You know what struck me first about Apartment Irma? It’s tucked away on this quiet residential street – Chodská 15 – where you actually feel like you’re living in Karlovy Vary rather than just visiting it. I mean, most people think they need to stay right in the touristy center, but honestly, being a short walk from the main spa colonnade while having your own peaceful corner is kind of perfect.

The place has this unpretentious charm that I wasn’t expecting from the photos. It’s a proper apartment setup, not some sterile hotel room, so you’ve got space to actually spread out your stuff and make coffee in the morning without stepping over suitcases. The owner clearly put thought into the details – good Wi-Fi (which you can’t take for granted in some of these older Karlovy Vary buildings), proper blackout curtains for those summer mornings when the sun’s up at 5 AM, and a kitchen that’s actually equipped for cooking if you want to grab groceries from the Tesco down the hill. Speaking of which, that little walk to the town center is all downhill going in, which is lovely until you realize you’re carrying spa water bottles back up – but hey, that’s half the Karlovy Vary experience right there.

What really gets me is how this place manages to feel both homey and special at the same time. The neighborhood’s got this authentic Czech residential vibe where you’ll hear kids playing in courtyards and smell dinner cooking from other apartments, but you’re still close enough to wander down to the Grand Hotel Pupp area when you want that full spa town atmosphere. The rating of 9.5 makes total sense once you’re there – it’s not trying to be fancy, it’s just genuinely comfortable and well-thought-out. Plus, and this might sound weird, but the water pressure in the shower is actually great, which after a day of walking around those hilly cobblestone streets sampling thermal springs, you really appreciate. The only thing I’d mention is that if you’re someone who needs constant room service or a 24-hour front desk, this isn’t that kind of place – but honestly, that’s part of what makes it feel so relaxed and authentic. You get your keys, settle in, and just live like a local for a few days.
