Apartment La Fleur

So I stumbled across Apartment La Fleur during my third visit to Karlovy Vary, and honestly? I wish I’d found this gem years ago. Tucked away on Ondřejská street – which, by the way, is perfectly positioned between the main spa district and the quieter residential area where actual locals live – this place gets the balance just right. You’re close enough to walk to the famous colonnades in about eight minutes (I timed it), but far enough removed that you won’t hear drunk tourists singing at 2 AM.

The apartment itself has this understated elegance that feels authentically Czech rather than trying too hard to impress international visitors. I mean, the 9.7 rating isn’t an accident – whoever runs this place actually cares about details. The floors have this lovely old-world character (wooden, but not creaky), and the windows are properly soundproofed, which matters more than you’d think in a spa town where early morning street cleaning is a thing. What really got me was the kitchen setup – it’s not just decorative like so many hotel kitchenettes. You can actually cook here if you want to save money or just feel like a human being instead of eating every meal out. There’s this small grocery store about two blocks down that locals use, and you know what? Sometimes it’s nice to grab some Czech bread and coffee and have breakfast without putting on real pants.

The location thing is what sealed it for me, though. Most tourists stick to the main drag between the Grand Hotel Pupp and the Mill Colonnade, but Ondřejská puts you in walking distance of everything while giving you this sense of actually living in the city for a few days. The thermal springs are obviously the main draw – you’re maybe ten minutes from Vřídlo Spring if you take the scenic route through the park – but honestly, some of my best memories were just wandering the residential streets in the evening when the day-trippers had gone home. Plus, parking isn’t the nightmare it is closer to the center, and if you’re planning to do day trips to Loket Castle or the Moser glass factory, you can actually get your car out without navigating tourist chaos. The whole experience feels less like staying in a hotel and more like borrowing a friend’s really nice place. Just book it early if you’re coming during the film festival in July – everything decent gets snatched up months ahead.
