You know what caught me off guard about Apartment Luxor? The name makes it sound way fancier than it actually is – and I mean that in the best possible way. This is a solid 3-star spot right on T. G. Masaryka, which honestly puts you in a sweet spot in Karlovy Vary. You’re close enough to the main spa zone that you can stumble back after sampling too many Becherovka tastings, but far enough up the hill that you’re not dealing with tour groups chattering outside your window at 7 AM.

The building itself has that Eastern European charm – you know, the kind where the elevator makes interesting sounds but actually works perfectly fine, and the hallways have this old-world quietness that’s pretty rare these days. What really impressed me was how they’ve managed to blend the apartment-style setup with proper hotel service. The rooms feel like you’re staying in someone’s well-kept flat rather than a sterile hotel box, which is exactly what you want when you’re planning to soak in thermal baths all day and need a real place to decompress afterward. The kitchenette situation is actually useful too – not just for show like in some places. I mean, Karlovy Vary has great restaurants, but sometimes you want to grab fresh bread from that bakery near the Grandhotel Pupp and just have a quiet morning with coffee.

Here’s the thing about the location that the booking sites don’t really capture – you’re positioned perfectly for both the touristy stuff and the locals’ spots. Walk downhill toward the colonnade and you hit all the famous springs and the fancy shopping areas where people buy those porcelain drinking cups. But if you head the other direction, there are these neighborhood pubs and smaller thermal spots that most visitors never find. The walk to the main spa area takes maybe ten minutes, and it’s actually pleasant because you’re strolling through residential streets with those beautiful Art Nouveau buildings. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle during festival season – Karlovy Vary gets packed during the film festival in July – but the staff actually knows the neighborhood well enough to point you toward spots that aren’t obvious. The whole experience feels more personal than your typical hotel stay, probably because the place is small enough that the front desk remembers your name after the first day. It’s the kind of spot where you feel like you’ve discovered something rather than just booked a room.
