The building itself has that classic Central European charm without being too precious about it – sort of like it knows it’s in one of the Czech Republic’s most famous spa towns but isn’t trying too hard to prove it belongs there.

What really won me over was the location, honestly. I mean, you’re literally a few minutes’ walk from the main colonnade where all the thermal springs are, but you’re tucked away on a quieter side street so you don’t get the constant parade of tour groups marching past your window at 7 AM. The staff genuinely seemed to know their stuff too – not in that rehearsed way where they recite the same script, but like they actually live here and can tell you which springs are least crowded in the early evening (it’s the Market Colonnade, by the way). The rooms are clean and functional without being fancy – think decent beds, reliable hot water, and windows that actually open properly, which is more than I can say for some pricier places I’ve stayed.

Here’s the thing though – and this might matter depending on what you’re after – the Centrum isn’t trying to be a luxury spa resort. The breakfast is solid Czech fare, nothing Instagram-worthy but it’ll fuel you for a day of wandering around tasting mineral water and pretending to understand why it’s good for your digestion. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this part of town (honestly, just ask them when you book), and if you’re expecting a fitness center or room service, well… you’re probably looking at the wrong category of hotel. But for the price point and that 8.1 rating? It makes sense. You’re paying for a comfortable base camp in a town where the real action happens outside anyway – whether that’s sipping Becherovka at a traditional café or taking those scenic walks up to the Diana Lookout Tower. The Centrum gets you there without breaking the bank, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need.
