You know what caught me off guard about Hotel Diamant? Walking up to this narrow building on Tyrsova Street, I honestly wasn’t expecting much – I mean, it’s tucked between these other modest facades and you could easily miss it if you’re not paying attention. But once you step inside, there’s this immediate sense that someone actually cares about the place. The lobby isn’t trying to be fancy or anything, but it’s got character in a way that feels authentically Czech rather than cookie-cutter European hotel.

The location is actually pretty brilliant if you know Karlovy Vary at all. Tyrsova runs parallel to the main spa promenade, so you’re literally a two-minute walk from all the famous colonnades and hot springs, but you’re not dealing with the constant stream of tour groups right outside your window. I stayed there in late spring when the town gets busy with the spa crowd, and honestly, being able to duck back to this quiet side street was perfect. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 3-star – nothing flashy, but clean and comfortable with decent bathrooms (the water pressure was surprisingly good, which matters when you’ve been walking around those hilly streets all day). Some of the rooms on the upper floors actually have these nice little views toward the spa district, though don’t expect floor-to-ceiling windows or anything dramatic.

What really won me over was how the staff seemed to know the town inside and out. The guy at reception – I think his name was Pavel – gave me directions to this little restaurant off Stará Louka that I never would’ve found otherwise, and he was spot-on about timing my visit to the Mill Colonnade to avoid the worst crowds. It’s that kind of local insight you just don’t get at the big chain places. The breakfast setup is pretty standard Continental fare, but they do this really good local bread and the coffee is surprisingly decent for a smaller hotel. I mean, you’re not going to mistake it for a specialty café, but it gets the job done. One small thing that might bug some people – the building is older, so you’ll hear footsteps from upstairs sometimes, and the elevator is one of those tiny European ones that fits maybe two people and a small suitcase. But honestly, for the price point and that 8.2 rating (which feels about right), Hotel Diamant delivers exactly what it promises. If you’re coming to Karlovy Vary to actually experience the spa town rather than just Instagram it, this place gives you a genuine base without breaking the bank or overwhelming you with unnecessary luxury.
