I mean, the location really struck me — it’s in the Olšová Vrata area, which honestly feels more residential and authentic than staying right in the thick of things. The lobby has this understated elegance that doesn’t try too hard, and the staff genuinely seemed happy to see guests arrive.

Location & Getting Around

Here’s what I love about where Hotel Karolina is positioned — you get the best of both worlds. You’re close enough to walk to the Mill Colonnade and the hot springs (maybe 10-15 minutes on foot), but you’re not dealing with the constant stream of tour groups that flood the main hotel district. The neighborhood has a few local cafes and shops that actually cater to residents, not just tourists. Plus, there’s free private parking right at the hotel, which is honestly a godsend if you’re driving — finding parking in central Karlovy Vary can be a real headache, especially during spa season.

The Rooms

My room was clean and comfortable, though not particularly large — but that’s pretty standard for European hotels in this price range. What impressed me was the attention to detail: good blackout curtains, a decent shower with actual water pressure, and windows that actually opened (you’d be surprised how often that’s not the case). The decor feels updated without being trendy, and there’s enough storage space for a week-long stay. The beds are firm, which I personally prefer, and the rooms stay quiet even though you’re still in the city.

I appreciated that they included some Czech specialties alongside the standard European breakfast fare. The breakfast room gets good natural light, and service was efficient without feeling rushed.

The location gets consistently high marks from couples (I can see why — it feels more intimate than the busier hotel areas), and the staff clearly takes pride in maintaining the property. You’re getting genuine value here, especially with the included parking and that breakfast. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’ve discovered something that the big tour groups haven’t caught onto yet, which in Karlovy Vary is actually pretty rare.
