Hotel Kavalír
You know what?
You know what? I almost walked right past Hotel Kavalír on T.G.Masaryka street – honestly, from the outside it looks like just another turn-of-the-century building in Karlovy Vary. But that’s actually part of its charm, I guess. It sits right in the thick of things without screaming for attention, which is pretty refreshing when you’re dealing with a spa town that can feel a bit… well, touristy at times. The entrance is understated, almost modest, and when I first stepped inside there was this immediate sense of “oh, this is going to be different than I expected.” Not in a bad way – more like finding a really good local restaurant that doesn’t need flashy signs because the regulars keep it busy.
The thing about staying here is that you’re literally walking distance from the main colonnade (I mean, everything’s walking distance in Karlovy Vary, but this is the good kind of close), yet somehow the street noise doesn’t really penetrate the rooms. I was expecting to hear every tour group shuffling by at 7 AM, but the windows must be decent because I actually slept through the morning foot traffic. The rooms themselves have this lived-in quality – not worn down, just… comfortable in a way that feels genuine. The furniture’s got character, some pieces look like they’ve been there for decades, and honestly that works better than some sterile modern setup would. There’s something about the whole place that feels like it belongs in Karlovy Vary, like it grew up with the town instead of being dropped in by a hotel chain.
What really got me though was how the staff just seemed to know things – like when I mentioned wanting to avoid the afternoon crowds at the hot springs, the guy at reception immediately suggested specific times and even drew a little map showing the back way to get to Vřídlo spring. These aren’t things you get from a training manual, you know? Plus, and this might sound weird, but the whole building has this particular smell – not bad at all, just old wood and something faintly floral that might be from whatever they use to clean the floors. It’s oddly comforting, like staying at a relative’s house who actually knows how to take care of a place. The breakfast room overlooks the street, so you can people-watch while drinking surprisingly good coffee and planning whether you want to tackle the funicular up to Diana Tower or just wander the spa district. For a 3-star place, it punches way above its weight – that 8.6 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there a couple days.

Central location on beautiful street Super flexible for check in with the PIN codes. They provided me some lovely dinner recommendations which was so easy to get to due to the fantastic location. Really enjoyed my stay. Just note that you’ll need to pay for parking at a public car park as hotel is in pedestrian zone.
Highly-recommend Everything was perfect! On the day of our arrival, the receptionist was extremely friendly and kind. The same applied on our check-out day – the other receptionist was also nice and helpful. Tasty breakfast.
