Pavlova street – honestly, the name made me think it might be one of those overly formal places where you feel weird wearing sneakers in the lobby. The building itself has that classic Karlovy Vary elegance (you can tell they’ve kept up with renovations without losing the character), and the location is pretty much perfect if you want to actually experience the spa town vibe without being right in the thick of tourist chaos. I mean, you’re literally a three-minute walk from the main colonnade where all the thermal springs are, but you’re tucked away enough that you’re not hearing groups of tour buses at 7 AM.

What really sold me on this place was the staff – they actually know the area and will give you real recommendations, not just the obvious tourist spots. The woman at reception told me about this little path behind the hotel that connects to the forest trails, which honestly became my favorite part of staying there. The rooms are solid for a 4-star – nothing revolutionary, but everything works properly and they’ve clearly invested in decent mattresses and blackout curtains (crucial if you’re trying to sleep off spa treatments). The bathrooms are updated with good water pressure, which you’d think would be a given in a spa town but… well, you’d be surprised. There’s also this nice touch where they leave local mineral water in the rooms instead of generic bottled stuff.

Here’s the thing about Karlovy Vary hotels – a lot of them either go full communist-era austere or try way too hard to be fancy. Hotel Kolonada sort of sits in this sweet spot where it feels comfortable and unpretentious. The breakfast isn’t going to blow your mind, but it’s got good local bread and cheese, plus they actually know how to make coffee (not always guaranteed in this part of Europe, let’s be honest). Parking can be a bit tricky – there’s a small lot behind the building, but during festival season or busy spa months you might need to use the public garage about two blocks down. The 7.8 rating feels about right to me – it’s definitely a place I’d stay again, especially for the price point, but it’s not going to be the highlight of your trip. It’s more like… a really good supporting actor that lets the main attraction (the town itself) shine.
