Hotel Palacky
Look, I'll be honest with you – Hotel Palacky isn't going to blow your mind, but there's something genuinely charming about this place that grows on you.
Look, I’ll be honest with you – Hotel Palacky isn’t going to blow your mind, but there’s something genuinely charming about this place that grows on you. It sits right on Stara Louka, which honestly is one of those streets you probably wouldn’t notice if you weren’t staying there, but that’s actually kind of perfect. You’re maybe a seven-minute walk from the main colonnade action, close enough that you can hear the distant chatter from the spa crowds during the day, but far enough that you won’t have tour groups trampling past your window at 6 AM.
The building itself has that solid, no-nonsense Czech feel – you know, the kind of place that’s been housing travelers for decades and knows exactly what it’s doing. My room had these heavy curtains that actually blocked out light (revolutionary concept, right?), and the bathroom was one of those surprisingly spacious European setups where you don’t have to shimmy around the toilet to reach the shower. The lobby smells faintly of coffee and something floral – probably from whatever they use to clean the marble floors. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, none of that overly enthusiastic “welcome to paradise” nonsense, just efficient folks who seemed to actually live in the area and could give you real directions to places.
What I really appreciated was how the staff handled the whole spa town thing – they get that you’re probably here for the thermal springs, but they don’t treat you like you’re on some mystical healing journey. The concierge (an older guy who’s clearly been doing this forever) pointed me toward the less touristy spring spots and mentioned which times of day to avoid the crowds at Vřídlo. The hotel breakfast runs until 10, which is clutch if you’re planning those early morning walks through the forest paths above town. Parking was… well, it’s Karlovy Vary, so street parking is what it is, but there’s a small lot behind the building that usually has space if you’re not arriving during festival season. The 7.4 rating feels about right – it’s not luxury, but everything works properly and the beds are actually comfortable. You’ll sleep well here, wake up refreshed, and feel like you discovered something the guidebooks didn’t oversell to death.

What Our Guests Say
Very Good Hotel is in perfect location, in centre.
What could be improved: The beds were too soft.
A reasonable stay Excellent location
Decent breakfast
What could be improved: The place lacks maintenance. Old worn out furniture. The rooms were not serviced every day. They claimed they have parking spaces, but when requested, I was told they were all taken !?
Not sure we would rebook The location was good, the room was clean, and the bathroom was clean. Breakfast was plentiful.
What could be improved: The hotel looked as if it lacked care, and the furniture was old, discoloured, and very worn. No coffee is available in the room. In the three days we stayed, beds were not made up, and towels were not changed. The shower gel provided consisted of one small sachet, enough for one shower, and that was it for 3 days. I guess in summary, you get what you pay for.
Very Good Location, breakfast and very comfortable room.
Very Good The hotel was alright with a very convenient location. The breakfast was average hotel breakfast, but overall it was a great deal for the price. The staff was super helpful and kind and this was actually what made my stay amazing.
Great value in Karlovy Vary! Great price with breakfast included, decent location
