Hotel Petr
You know what caught me off guard about Hotel Petr?
You know what caught me off guard about Hotel Petr? It’s tucked right there on Vridelni street, which honestly puts you in this sweet spot where you can hear the gentle hum of Karlovy Vary’s spa district without being overwhelmed by the main tourist crush. I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from the famous colonnades, but when you step back into the hotel lobby in the evening, there’s this immediate sense of calm that settles over you.
The building itself has that classic Central European charm – you can tell it’s been hosting travelers for decades, but they’ve clearly put effort into keeping things fresh. The rooms are what I’d call thoughtfully updated; not flashy or trying too hard, just comfortable in that way that makes you actually want to spend time there rather than just crash for the night. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets after about 10 PM, even though you’re right in the heart of things. The windows do a surprisingly good job of blocking out street noise, which is something you definitely want when the spa crowds start their early morning pilgrimages to the hot springs.
Here’s the thing about staying on Vridelni – and this is something the locals will tell you if you ask – you’re positioned perfectly for both the serious spa experience and the more casual exploration of the town. Walk left toward the river and you hit the grand colonnades where everyone’s sipping their thermal water from those little porcelain cups (definitely try it at least once, though fair warning, it tastes like… well, like mineral-rich water). Walk the other direction and you’re climbing up into the residential areas where you get these incredible views back down over the whole valley. The hotel staff actually knows this stuff too, which surprised me – they’re not just pointing you toward the obvious tourist spots.
Look, it’s a solid 4-star place with a 7.6 rating, and honestly? That rating feels about right. It’s not going to blow your mind with luxury, but it gets all the important stuff right. Check-in was smooth, the Wi-Fi actually works throughout the building, and – this matters more than you’d think in older European hotels – the shower pressure is excellent. I stayed there during shoulder season in October, so I can’t speak to how crazy it gets during peak spa season, but the whole operation felt well-run and like they could handle crowds without falling apart. If you’re planning to spend your days wandering the colonnades, soaking in thermal baths, and maybe taking that funicular up to the Diana Lookout Tower, Hotel Petr gives you a comfortable home base without the premium price tag of some of the grand dame hotels closer to the main springs.
Travelers should reserve a hotel in Karlovy Vary at least two months ahead for major events like the Film Festival, ensuring the best rates and prime locations near thermal springs.

What Our Guests Say
Wonderful Jan at the reception shared valuable tips with us about which mineral spring is better to use, he was friendly and polite. The room was unexpectedly spacious, with 2 floors.
Another praise is for the reception that allowed us to keep the heavy suitcases some time after checking out. Due to this favour, our small group could climb the hills around the historical part of Karlovy Vary.
What could be improved: There were some spots in the lower room which looked untidy: dead insects near the window.
Very Good location is great
Extra ordinary city and people. Very good location. Historical place In a very nice city. Very kind staff .
What could be improved: Historical and wonderful city with extra ordinary spring and healthy
water . and very nice views .
Very comfortable and excellent view! The view is excellent, the breakfast was delicious.
What could be improved: The whirl pool didn't work, we could just use it as a bath tub.
The kitchen's equipment is not sufficient for cooking, there was one pan and a pot.
Very Good What could be improved: wifi doesn’t work
Does the job and is nice to stay in. The personnel is very helpful. -A very central location, great for walking around
- the personnel was very friendly and helpful arranging our late-night arrival. It’s important to know that driving the street to their parking garage (located at the 6th floor of the hotel) is restricted, and the GPSs show it as one-way or forbidden to entry. Drive in anyway and be prepared to tell the police that you are checking in.
- the breakfast was quite fine
What could be improved: - we did have a small sauna in our huge suite, but didn’t have any kitchenette or a microwave :) Not that we needed a kitchen, but some guests might require it.
- the garage can only accomodate 2 cars, and if both cars are big, then it gets really tight
Delightful location and hotel. Stunning location… once we found it as very central you couldn’t actually drive your car to the front. View just stunning and easy access to Italian restaurant underneath. We used car parking once sorted super convenient. Both rooms roomy and clean. lovely to have breakfast included.
What could be improved: Sorry the heating appeared to be broken in room 212 seemed to only be on full and didn’t get a chance to tell you we ha$ to sleep with windows open which worked bu5 you may need to check.
Wonderful The location of the hotel was more than perfect, right in the heart of the city (we could see the colonnades from our window). The staff was really friendly and helpful with various information (eg: we wanted to visit Locket Castle which is situated in a nearby village, approx. 30 minutes by bus and the staff helped us with the timetable of the bus). Breakfast was good, room was big, cozy and really clean.
Definitely recommend this hotel for 2,3 days trip in that area.
What could be improved: Everything was perfect, nothing to brag about. Highly recommend this hotel.
Wonderful Location is perfect, breakfast has a wide choice, garage in center of town
What could be improved: Stairs to the apartment are a little narrow and curved
Very Good Perfect location, right in the town centre.
What could be improved: Parking is a bit tricky, half way down a cobbled lane on a hill.
