It’s tucked away on Stará Louka street, which honestly sounds way more intimidating than it actually is – it just means “Old Meadow” and it’s this quiet residential stretch that locals seem to prefer over the tourist-packed main drag. I mean, you’re still walking distance from all the spa action Karlovy Vary is famous for, but without the constant parade of tour groups right outside your window.

The place has this understated charm that I wasn’t expecting from a 4-star spot. The apartments – and they really are proper apartments, not just hotel rooms with a mini-fridge – feel like someone’s well-maintained European flat rather than generic hospitality furniture. The kitchens actually work (I made coffee every morning and even attempted some basic meals), and there’s something refreshing about having real counter space and a dining table where you can spread out maps and plan your day. The 8.9 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed there – it’s not flashy or Instagram-perfect, but everything just… works. The shower pressure is solid, the Wi-Fi doesn’t cut out every five minutes, and the beds are actually comfortable, not those too-firm European mattresses that leave you feeling like you slept on concrete.

What really sold me on the location is how it sits in this sweet spot between the historic center and the residential areas where actual Czechs live. You can walk to the famous Grandhotel Pupp in about ten minutes (that’s where they filmed Casino Royale, if you care about that sort of thing), but you’re also close enough to the local grocery stores and that excellent little bakery on Zeyerova street that opens ridiculously early. Parking was surprisingly manageable – not easy, because it’s still Czech Republic and city parking is what it is – but definitely doable, especially if you’re willing to walk a block or two. The staff speak solid English, which honestly isn’t a given everywhere in Karlovy Vary, and they actually seem to know the area well enough to give you real recommendations instead of just pointing you toward the biggest tourist traps. I stayed in late spring when the weather was perfect for walking around, and the apartment stayed cool without needing air conditioning cranked up all day. The whole building is well-maintained without feeling sterile, and you get the sense that they actually care about the place rather than just collecting booking fees.
