Honestly, when I first pulled up to Mint Apartment on Ondříčkova Street, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. I mean, the building looks pretty standard from the outside – one of those classic Karlovy Vary residential blocks that blend right into the neighborhood. But you know what? Sometimes the best finds are the ones hiding in plain sight.

The thing about this location is that it’s actually perfect if you want to experience Karlovy Vary like someone who lives there, not just another tourist rushing between the big hotels downtown. You’re about a 12-minute walk from the main colonnade area where all the thermal springs are, which sounds far but honestly feels like nothing once you get into the rhythm of strolling through those tree-lined streets. Plus, there’s this little bakery just two blocks down that opens at 6 AM – I stumbled across it on my second morning and ended up going there every day for these incredible koláče pastries that were still warm from the oven.

What really surprised me about Mint Apartment was how quiet it gets at night. The street has just enough local foot traffic during the day to feel alive, but once evening hits, it’s this peaceful residential vibe where you can actually open your windows and hear birds instead of car horns. The apartment itself has this clean, no-nonsense setup that feels more like staying at a friend’s place than a hotel – which I guess makes sense given the name. The kitchen area is small but functional (I made coffee there every morning), and the bathroom has surprisingly good water pressure, something you don’t always get in older Czech buildings. The beds are comfortable enough that I never woke up with that stiff neck you sometimes get from hotel mattresses, and there’s decent storage space if you’re the type who actually unpacks your suitcase.

I’ll be honest, the decor isn’t going to win any design awards – it’s sort of minimalist in that practical European way – but everything works, everything’s clean, and the WiFi is solid. What really sold me was the genuine helpfulness of the staff. When I mentioned wanting to find the less touristy thermal baths, they didn’t just hand me a generic map but actually drew out directions to this smaller spring about 15 minutes away that locals use. That kind of insider knowledge is worth more than fancy amenities, at least to me. The whole experience felt refreshingly honest – no pretense, no overselling, just a comfortable place to stay while you explore one of the Czech Republic’s most interesting spa towns at your own pace.
