Pension Lukas
You know what struck me first about Pension Lukas?
You know what struck me first about Pension Lukas? It’s actually tucked away on Slovanska Street in a way that feels properly local – not touristy at all, but still close enough to the main spa district that you can walk to the colonnades in about ten minutes. I mean, Karlovy Vary can get pretty overwhelming with all the tour groups during spa season, but this little place sits just far enough back that you get some breathing room.
The building itself has that classic Central European pension feel – think clean lines, decent-sized rooms, and honestly pretty good value for what you’re getting in a spa town where prices can get ridiculous. The owner (I’m assuming it’s Lukas, though I never actually asked) clearly knows the hospitality business. Check-in was smooth, no fuss, and he had this whole mental map of local recommendations that weren’t just the obvious tourist spots. He mentioned this bakery two streets over that opens at 6 AM – perfect if you’re one of those people who wants to hit the hot springs early before the crowds arrive.
What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays at night, even though you’re still in the city center. The windows are decent quality, and Slovanska isn’t one of those main drags where trams are clattering by all evening. The rooms are… well, they’re exactly what you’d expect from a solid 3-star place. Nothing fancy, but everything works, the beds are comfortable enough, and there’s this practical European approach to space that I actually prefer to those oversized hotel rooms that feel impersonal. The bathroom was properly hot water, good pressure – honestly, after a day of walking around those hilly spa gardens, that’s what matters.
I’d say the 7.8 rating makes sense. It’s not trying to be luxury, but it nails the fundamentals really well. The location is actually brilliant if you think about it – you’re close enough to walk to Tržiště for dinner (there’s this wine bar called Becherovka that locals go to), but you’re not paying those premium rates you’d get right on the main promenade. Plus, if you’re planning to do any of the hiking trails around the city, you can actually find street parking nearby, which is honestly a miracle in Karlovy Vary.
The only thing I’d mention is that if you’re expecting resort-style amenities, this isn’t that kind of place. But if you want somewhere clean, well-run, and genuinely local-feeling as a base for exploring the spa town – without the tourist markup – then Pension Lukas hits that sweet spot perfectly.

Perfect location for Loket castle and Karlovy vary 10 minute drive to Karlovy vary center and the same to Loket castle. Very peaceful area.
What could be improved: Didnt stay for that long to dislike something
Good Nice price and warm room. Next to the pension a big playground.
The pension is very kids and pets friendly.
What could be improved: You'd better have a local number or roaming to call the property to ask to open the doors, because the bell probably doesn't work. But that could be because we came on the 1st of January (so might not be your case).
The microwave oven and water heater were outside the room, so every time I had to go out to make a cup of tea.
We didn't manage to turn on the fridge. Unfortunately we haven't seen anyone for 3 days at the reception. From one side you feel more privacy, from another - you're helpless facing a problem. I still believe that it caused only by the new year holidays.
Perfect. Everything was okay in Pension Lukas. Rooms were okay. Breakfast - early breakfast at 07:00 am was no problem - okay. good contact and warm wellcome . Parking place for the car near the door.
budget sleep fair price for a pension in a residential area of town.
its basic but warm and clean.
I only got spoken to in czech, dont know if other languages were available
What could be improved: breakfast, to expensive for what is offered.
Good It was clean
What could be improved: Some Beds were not comfortable
Wonderful Everything with the hotel was OK.
What could be improved: Some of the information on the site of booking.com was not true. For instance, the restaurant of the guest house didn't work.
There was no possibility of using the pool of the next hotel with the reduced price.
great choice for one (or more) nights in family environment close to Karlsbad We stayed here for a sleep-over during a long trip. The place was perfect for us. The style is not modern but rather like home and thats how we felt: peace and quiet, comfortable and relaxed. The stay, was very affordable and plece easy to reach (easy also for a day in Karlsbad). A bonus: very good breakfast.
What could be improved: The only thing missing was a shower-gel or soap (however hand soap was available)
Very Good breakfast
What could be improved: Too much hot in the room
Good Easy check in
What could be improved: Breakfast was included but, as they would be closed for it, we've got only panini and a fruit juice.
I recommend! Overall, it is worth what you pay. The breakfast, location, parking and the room I stayed at had a beautiful view.
What could be improved: Nothing
