Pension U Vlášků
You know what struck me first about Pension U Vlášků?
You know what struck me first about Pension U Vlášků? It’s tucked away on Průběžná street in this wonderfully quiet residential pocket of Karlovy Vary that most tourists never discover. I mean, you’re literally a fifteen-minute walk from all the spa madness and crowds around the Grandhotel Pupp area, but it feels like you’re staying in an actual Czech neighborhood where real people live. The building itself has that classic Central European pension vibe — nothing fancy, but honestly, that’s exactly what you want when you’re trying to experience Karlovy Vary without blowing your budget on one of those grand spa hotels that charge €200 a night just for the marble lobby.
The rooms are what I’d call “grandmother’s house comfortable” — and I mean that in the best possible way. Clean, well-maintained, with those heavy European curtains that actually block out light (thank god, because Czech summer mornings start ridiculously early). The owners clearly know what they’re doing; this isn’t some corporate chain where you’re dealing with bored desk clerks who’ve never been outside the city. These folks will tell you which thermal springs are worth visiting in the morning before the tour buses arrive, or where to grab proper Czech beer that isn’t tourist-priced. Actually, speaking of beer — there’s this little hospoda about three blocks down toward the river that the pension owner mentioned, and it turned out to be one of those perfect local spots where nobody speaks English but the Pilsner is perfect and costs what it should cost.
What really sells me on this place, though, is how it handles the whole Karlovy Vary experience. Look, if you want to feel like royalty and have someone carry your bags and mix your spa treatments, this isn’t your spot. But if you want a clean, comfortable base where you can actually afford to stay for a week and explore the town properly — well, that 8.4 rating makes total sense. The neighborhood stays quiet at night (unlike some areas closer to the main promenade where you get drunk spa tourists stumbling around), there’s decent parking which is honestly a miracle in this town, and you’re close enough to walk to the major springs but far enough away that you’re not fighting crowds every time you leave your room. Plus, and this might sound weird, but the pension has this particular smell — not bad, just old building mixed with cleaning supplies and maybe coffee — that immediately made me feel like I was staying somewhere with actual character instead of some sanitized hotel chain. Sometimes that’s exactly what a place like Karlovy Vary calls for.

Exceptional What could be improved: Good
Very Good The pension is well located if you come to visit Karlovy Vary by car. Clean and functional. Thank you for the welcome!
A nice pension on a river's bank in the countryside. Perfect for families with children or when you are just tired of unstoppable chaos of a big city life. However, there are enough methods to get to the Karlovy Vary city center. The bus stop is located approximately 5 minutes walking from the pension. You can use both city and intercity buses, with quite convenient schedules. If you would like to rent a car, the place where you can do it is right next to the bus stop. If you don't want any adventures and just want to relax and allow yourself to lie in bed whole day long, comfortable, clean, warm, and cozy rooms will give you this opportunity. You will also have everything you might need during your trip: towels, soaps, dishes, WI-FI, TV and plenty of books all over the hotel🙂 There also was a huge sofa in the kitchen near my room, what is a great thing for gathering with friends or getting acquainted with other inhabitants of the hotel. The thing that personally I liked the most was that I had booked a room half an hour before coming there after 21:00 and I was met and accommodated without any problems.
What could be improved: Of course, there were several minuses (but is there any place on the planet without them?)
1) The microwave oven in the kitchen near my room was broken. Maybe there was some alternative there, but I didn't find it.
2) Lack of card payment terminal. So, be sure you have cash with you.
Wonderful Close to Karlovy Vary. Spacious room for 4 people. Comfortable and clean. Friendly owner.
Wonderful Affordable price, you get your own space and bathroom for your stay.
What could be improved: It is far away from the center. The last bus for the area leaves like at 22.20 from the city center.
Very Good Really good price performance. A bit too far from city if you without car.
Quiet village location Very friendly reception. Everything spotlessly clean. Comfortable beds. Modern interior. Inexpensive, well-stocked minibar, also suitable as a fridge. Useful guest kitchen with cooker and oven. Pleasant terrace for meals in the green. Quiet and relaxing location. Nice walking path into town during the day.
What could be improved: Last bus out of town 22:25 or 1 hour hike along country road.
Cheap and good Quiet and cozy
What could be improved: Bathroom quite small
