Residence IRON CUBE

Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect from a place called IRON CUBE – I mean, it sounds more like a tech startup than a hotel, right? But walking up to Residence IRON CUBE on Foersterova Street, you immediately get why they chose that name. The building has this sleek, modern edge that’s totally unexpected in Karlovy Vary, where most places lean heavily into the whole Habsburg spa town vibe.

What really got me was the location – and I don’t mean that in the usual “convenient location” way everyone talks about. Foersterova runs parallel to the main spa district, so you’re actually close enough to walk to all the famous colonnades and hot springs (maybe ten minutes to the Mill Colonnade), but you’re not dealing with the constant stream of tour groups that clog up the streets around Tržiště. The neighborhood feels more like where locals actually live, which I loved. There’s a small grocery store practically next door, and the tram stop is right there if you want to venture out to the castle ruins or take that scenic ride up to Diana Lookout Tower.

The 4-star rating feels about right – it’s not trying to be the Grand Hotel Pupp (thank god, because who can afford that place), but everything works exactly as it should. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, and the staff actually seemed to know the area well enough to give real recommendations instead of just pointing you toward the obvious tourist spots. My room had this minimalist thing going on that somehow managed to feel cozy rather than stark – good blackout curtains, which you’ll appreciate since summer nights stay light until almost 10 PM here. The bathroom was properly modern with decent water pressure, something you can’t always count on in this part of the Czech Republic.

You know what impressed me most? The little details that show someone actually thought about what travelers need. The WiFi worked everywhere (even in the elevator), there were enough outlets near the bed, and the windows actually opened – revolutionary, I know, but you’d be surprised how many newer hotels seal you in completely. Parking was sorted without drama, which is huge in Karlovy Vary’s narrow streets where finding a spot can turn into a whole expedition.

The 9.1 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed here. It’s not flashy or Instagram-perfect, but it gets everything right without any of the pretentious nonsense you sometimes get in spa towns. Plus, being slightly off the main tourist drag means you’ll actually sleep at night instead of listening to late-night revelers stumbling between bars. If you’re coming to Karlovy Vary to actually experience the place rather than just tick it off a list, this is exactly the kind of spot you want as your base.
