You know what caught me off guard about Residence London 1891? The name makes absolutely zero sense until you step inside these apartments on Pod Jelením skokem street – then you get it. There’s this unexpectedly elegant, almost Victorian design aesthetic going on that somehow works perfectly in the heart of Karlovy Vary. I mean, the address alone tells you you’re in prime territory (that street name translates to “Under the Deer’s Leap,” which honestly sounds way cooler in Czech), just a stone’s throw from the main spa colonnade where all the thermal spring action happens.

The apartments themselves are actually spacious – and I say “actually” because most European city stays tend to be pretty cramped. These feel more like proper homes than hotel rooms, which makes sense given the setup. The design elements lean heavily into that London 1891 theme without being kitschy about it. Think rich textures, thoughtful lighting, and furniture that doesn’t look like it came from a hotel catalog. What really impressed me was the attention to practical details… decent kitchen setups if you want to grab groceries from the Tesco down the hill, proper storage space, and – this matters more than you’d think – really good blackout curtains. Karlovy Vary gets busy during spa season (basically May through October), and those main streets can stay lively pretty late.

Honestly, the 9-star rating makes complete sense once you’ve stayed here. It’s not trying to be flashy or over-the-top luxurious, but everything just works well. The location puts you within easy walking distance of the Hot Spring Colonnade and Mill Colonnade – you’ll probably find yourself doing that scenic stroll multiple times a day anyway, it’s kind of addictive. Plus, being on Pod Jelením skokem means you’re tucked into the historic center but not right on top of the main tourist thoroughfares, so you get some breathing room. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this part of town (most of the old center is pedestrian-friendly, which is great for walking, less great for cars), but the staff actually knows the area well enough to give you real advice, not just vague directions. I’d definitely come back – it’s the kind of place that makes Karlovy Vary feel less like a quick spa town pit stop and more like somewhere you could actually settle in for a few days and explore properly.
