Spa Hotel Iris
You know what struck me first about Spa Hotel Iris?
You know what struck me first about Spa Hotel Iris? It’s tucked right on Sadová street in a way that feels quintessentially Karlovy Vary – like someone actually thought about where to put a hotel instead of just plopping it down anywhere. I mean, you’re literally a three-minute walk from the main colonnade, but somehow you escape that constant stream of tour groups that can make the town center feel like a carnival in peak season. The building itself has this elegant, understated thing going on – not the flashiest place on the block, but honestly, that works in its favor.
The spa facilities are where this place really shines, and I’m saying this as someone who’s tried way too many European spa hotels that promise the world and deliver lukewarm mineral water in a basement. Here, they actually get it right. The treatments use proper Karlovy Vary thermal water (not just regular tap water heated up, which – trust me – happens more than you’d think), and the therapists seem to know what they’re doing rather than just going through the motions. The indoor pool area has this nice, calm vibe – no screaming kids because, well, it’s not really that kind of place. I particularly loved how quiet it gets in the late afternoon when most day-trippers have headed back to Prague. The rooms are solid 4-star territory – nothing revolutionary, but the beds are actually comfortable, and you’ll sleep well since Sadová doesn’t get the late-night foot traffic that some of the streets closer to the casino do.
What really won me over, though, was how the staff handled things. Check-in was smooth (they speak decent English, which helps if your Czech is rusty), and when I mentioned I was dealing with some back issues, the front desk guy – without me even asking – recommended their signature thermal treatment and actually knew enough about it to explain why it might help. That kind of local knowledge makes a difference. The breakfast isn’t going to blow your mind, but it’s fresh and there’s enough variety to keep you happy for a few days. Location-wise, you’re perfectly positioned to explore the town on foot – the Diana lookout tower is an easy walk if you’re up for it, and you can hit all the major drinking springs without breaking a sweat. Parking can be a bit tight during spa season (basically May through September), but they have a small lot behind the building that most guests don’t seem to know about. Overall, it’s the kind of place that just works – you’re not posting Instagram shots every five minutes, but you’re genuinely relaxed and getting good value for money. For Karlovy Vary, especially at this price point, that’s honestly saying something.

Very Good The hotel was nice and clean. Staff was friendly and professional. Good selection of food at breakfast and dinner. The room was cleaned daily, was a good size and had everything we needed.
What could be improved: The room where we had our massage wasn't very relaxing. It looked and felt more like at doctors' surgery, no relaxing music or scents and was too bright. Most of the staff didn't speak English.
