Spa Hotel Purkyně
You know what struck me first about Spa Hotel Purkyně?
You know what struck me first about Spa Hotel Purkyně? The location is absolutely perfect – I mean, you’re literally on Tržiště street, which puts you right in the heart of Karlovy Vary’s spa district without the crazy crowds that swarm around the Mill Colonnade. It’s this quiet little side street that somehow feels both central and tucked away, if that makes sense. When I walked out the front door, I could smell that distinctive sulfur scent from the hot springs mixing with coffee from the little café next door – honestly, it became oddly comforting after a day or two.
The hotel itself is solidly three-star, and they know exactly what they are. No pretense here, just good honest comfort with a focus on what Karlovy Vary does best – the spa treatments. The thermal baths downstairs are the real deal (not some fancy hotel pool pretending to be therapeutic), and the staff actually seems to understand the treatments they’re offering rather than just going through the motions. I watched them explain the mineral water drinking schedule to an elderly German couple, and you could tell they’d done this conversation a thousand times but still cared about getting it right. The rooms are clean and functional – nothing Instagram-worthy, but the beds are comfortable and the windows actually open, which is more than I can say for a lot of places these days.
What really won me over was how the place operates like locals actually stay there, not just tourists doing the grand tour. The breakfast starts early enough for people heading to morning treatments, and they keep those traditional Karlovy Vary wafers stocked all day in the lobby. Parking can be tricky on weekends (the nearby streets fill up with day-trippers), but the hotel staff pointed me toward a little lot about two blocks away that most visitors don’t know about. The 8.2 rating makes total sense – this isn’t luxury, but it’s exactly what you want when you’re in Karlovy Vary for the thermal treatments and want to stay somewhere that understands why you’re really here.
Karlovy Vary’s hotels showcase the perfect blend of Czech elegance and modern comfort, with many featuring spa treatment services and traditional Bohemian hospitality.

What Our Guests Say
Great location, rude staff The hotel is quite nice, the location is great, right in the centre by the colonnade. The room pleasantly surprised us with its size, especially the bathroom was huge and clean. The receptionist was a bit apathetic, but check-in and check-out went smoothly.
What could be improved: At breakfast it turned out that although the receptionist had given us information that breakfast was served until 10.30, it was actually only until 9.30. When we arrived at 10am (on a Sunday) we were scolded for being late. Although it turned out that the mistake was on the hotel's side and we did get some breakfast after all, not only did no one apologise to us verbally, but we had to listen to rather vulgar rants from some gentleman in the kitchen (probably the cook) that we must be completely stupid to come for breakfast at 11 (it was 10.15 by then) when he was already cooking lunch, etc. Luckily we were only in the hotel for 1 night so we didn't stay for lunch. We really won't be going back to this hotel.
Wonderful Hotel sa nachádza v absolútnom centre, v tichom prostredí. Raňajky bohaté a chutné. Slušný hotel , môžem odporučiť. Určite sa tu ubytujem opäť.
What could be improved: Pokojová služba za 2 dni ani raz nenazrela do izby. Ani len odpadové koše nevyprázdnili.
Very good location if not driving. Very good location. Good enough breakfast. Good value for money as a last minute trip.
What could be improved: Bad communication with the property due not having front desk staff able to speak or understand basic English. Unable to source parking or assist in getting one also due language barrier probably. Not able to issue company invoice despite being stated in the actual booking.
it was fine! The style, it was old but still looked really nice and stylish I would say even.
What could be improved: That the hotel is for recovery and you feel sometimes you are in the hospital, the lift is really interesting, I think they should update it somehow 🙈
Nice rooms, with bad beds, but prime location and nice staff. Wonderful location, view, room & bathroom
Beautiful background-sound by the river below my window (noise was well canceled when windows were shut)
super nice staff at the buffet
spontaneous early check-in without extra charge or problems - friendly reception staff
What could be improved: The bed was really bad
(a bit more (vegetarian) variety at the breakfast buffet would have been nice, but it wasn’t bad! And FYI: except for fruit/ veggies, no vegan options at the buffet, if I recollect correctly)
It was just na adhoc moment to book somthing but i would not stay anymore in this hotel! Location was in the cencert
