Spa Hotel Villa Smetana

So I stayed at Spa Hotel Villa Smetana last spring, and honestly? It’s one of those places that gets everything right without trying too hard. The building sits right on Krále Jiřího street – you know, that quieter stretch that runs parallel to the main spa district but actually feels like you’re staying in someone’s elegant neighborhood rather than tourist central. The 4-star rating is spot on, though I’d say the 8.7 guest score undersells it a bit.
What struck me first was how the place manages to feel genuinely Czech without all the kitschy folklore stuff you see everywhere else in Karlovy Vary. The lobby has this understated elegance – think rich woods and soft lighting rather than crystal chandeliers screaming “look at me.” The staff actually knows the area, too, which is rarer than you’d think. When I asked about hiking trails beyond the obvious tourist routes, the desk clerk sketched out a path that led to this incredible overlook most visitors never find. The spa facilities are the real draw here, obviously – the thermal treatments use water from the local springs, and you can actually taste the difference compared to those places that just pump in regular heated water. I mean, you’re in Karlovy Vary for the springs anyway, right? Might as well get the real thing.
The rooms are comfortable without being flashy – mine faced the back courtyard, which turned out to be perfect because you get morning sun but none of the street noise from the main tourist areas. Check-in was smooth (they actually had my room ready early), and parking is right there, which saves you from hunting around the narrow old-town streets with a rental car. What I really appreciated was the timing – they serve breakfast until 10:30, so you’re not rushing if you want to sleep in after a long spa day. The whole place has this calm, residential feel that makes you want to actually relax rather than frantically sightseeing. You’re still walking distance to everything – the Grandhotel Pupp, the colonnades, all the famous spots – but you come back to somewhere that feels like a retreat rather than another tourist checkpoint. Honestly, if you’re planning a proper spa getaway and want to feel like you’ve discovered something rather than just booked the most obvious choice, this is your spot.

Exceptional nice apartment, very good breakfast, in the spa area there is a swimming pool with hot water, we had parking in the yard, it is paid separately, the restaurant also has a good buffet dinner for 20e, the part with the springs in the center is about 300m away, it is a bit steep to get back to the hotel, but if you go further, it is not a big climb, we are satisfied with the accommodation
The room was nice and the food was good. The only downside was that we booked a twin room but the hotel didn't arran It's a beautiful building

Luxury Spa Hotel in Carlsbad Immaculate luxury room. Good size and well appointed.
What could be improved: A little sprawling, in three different and not connected buildings.
Exceptional Everything is amazing, rooms are clean, food has a variety and healthy, location is great, it is silent there. Also it was a birthday present for my mom, the receptionist Vitalij even made a surprise on the day of Birthday. It is a really nice when such a friendly and hospitable colleague is on the reception, KUDOS!
Beautifull hotel with large, clean rooms. Staff is hit or miss. Nice looking hotel with spacious rooms with decent curtains (rare in the Czech Republic!). Indoor pool was nice. Front desk personnel were helpful.
Booked a massage on the spot and it was great.
What could be improved: While the front desk people speak English and can help you with some of the hotel facilities, the people in the dining room don't. They don't really make an effort of helping you. Given the complexity of the hotel, knowing what facilities are where and which you can access can feel confusing.
