Look, I’ve stayed at my fair share of hotels in Karlovy Vary, and honestly? The St. Joseph Royal Regent on Zahradní surprised me. You know that slightly uphill walk from the main colonnade area – well, it’s actually worth it because you end up in this quieter pocket where locals still outnumber the tour groups.
The building itself has this understated elegance that I mean, doesn’t scream “look at me” like some of the flashier places closer to the Grandhotel Pupp. When I walked into the lobby, there was this subtle mineral scent in the air (you get used to it in spa towns, but here it felt intentional rather than overwhelming). The staff actually remembered my name by day two, which – let’s be real – doesn’t happen at every four-star place. Check-in was smooth, though I’d suggest arriving before 7 PM if you want the front desk person who speaks the best English.
What really sold me was the attention to small things that matter when you’re trying to unwind. The rooms face away from the main thermal spring crowds, so mornings are genuinely peaceful until around 9 AM when the day-trippers start arriving in town. The beds are firm enough that I didn’t wake up with that hotel back-ache, and honestly, the shower pressure was better than what I have at home. There’s decent soundproofing too – I could barely hear my neighbors, even during the busy September spa season when every hotel is packed. The breakfast spread isn’t huge, but they do this local honey situation that pairs ridiculously well with their fresh bread, and the coffee is strong enough to fuel your walk down to the Teplá River path.
Parking can be a bit tricky (like everywhere in this part of town), but they have a small lot behind the building that most guests don’t seem to know about – just ask at reception. The location puts you about a seven-minute walk to Dvořákovy sady park, which is perfect for evening strolls when the day crowds thin out, and you’re close enough to the action without being in the thick of it. I actually found myself using their lobby area in the evenings just to plan the next day – it has this lived-in comfort that makes you want to linger. The 8.7 rating makes sense when you add up all these little wins, plus the fact that you’re getting genuine Karlovy Vary charm without paying Grandhotel prices.

Místo na které se rád vrátím Bohatá a skvělá
What could be improved: Vše OK
Schönes Hotel, hervorragende Cocktails an der Bar Sauberkeit und Freundlichkeit, moderne Ausstattung
What could be improved: Begrenzter Anzahl an Parkplätzen
Exceptional Sehr schönes Hotel, zentral gelegen und sehr nettes Personal. Zimmer sind sauber und gemütlich. Waren über Silvester und das Programm und Essen waren sehr gut gewesen.
What could be improved: Ich habe nichts zu meckern.
Náš druhý služební pobyt, hodnotíme jako perfektní Snídaně perfektní, trochu více aktivní servírky - velmi rychle sklízely nedopité nápoje i jídlo, jinak super. Perfektní starší servis man (s brýlemi) - perfektní konverzace.
What could be improved: WiFi signál či signál vůbec ... v posilovně !!! Jinak nutnost časného bookingu parkovacího stání.
We had so much fun! Employees were helpful. Everywhere was clean. The spa area was enjoyable. We were pleased with the massage service. You can reach everywhere by walking. I would come again.
What could be improved: Breakfast could have been better. There is no kettle in the rooms. You have to walk 15 minutes for parking.
Short break away Clinical cleanliness
Spacious rooms, large beds
Location - within 5 min walk to Colonnades, shops, restaurants.
multiple sanatorium style treatments on offer
What could be improved: Badly designed layout of the pool area, making it uninviting. Being on the top floor, no skyline or side windows open up for fresh air. The pool terrace with beautiful views but cannot get there unless walking through the pool area itself through the changing rooms, no foot ware.
the hotel building is squashed within other buildings, and windows/ balconies are overlooked from all sides, also making the lobby bar and the lobby terrace dark and gloomy.
A short Christmas stay Very good breakfast.
The room is large and well designed.
Nice pool.
What could be improved: More lounge chairs close to pool.
Check-in forms in the reception should be available in English
Pleasant We really liked the pool area - let alone the tiles. They were extremely slippery. Also the room was nice, besides the fact that as soon as you opened the windows it smelled like egg from the kitchen that was located right underneath our room.
Also the staff was really nice and helped us with most problems.
What could be improved: The breakfast was not that good. Egg with fish in the morning is not what I expect for a nice breakfast. Also the poolbar is not quite what we expected, since cocktails are served in cans and plastic cups without any ice.
The rooms were good but the egg odor in the morning that came from the kitchen was kind of annoying. Also the people who worked in the breakfast area had a hard time to smile at the customers or let them feel welcome.
Exceptional Staff was very friendly and polite. I am deeply thankful to madam Neumannova, she was extremely nice and helped us a lot. All her colleagues were helpful as well, being very nice and speaking fluently Russian and German as well. I was really impressed.
The room was very comfortable, also child bed was big and comfortable. We did not have a balcony but there was a panoramic window with a beautiful view.
The hotel is situated near supermarkets and shops and taxi from central Station was only 13 Euro.
Swimming pool is on the roof, it is really cool idea. There is a person who checks water quality regularly.
I can say that the property exceeded my expectations.
I wish the hotel all the best, success and nice quests!
