The building itself has this old-world Czech character that you just can’t fake – thick walls that keep things surprisingly quiet despite being smack in the center of town, and these wonderfully uneven wooden floors that creak in all the right places. The apartments (and they really are proper apartments, not just hotel rooms with a mini-fridge) have enough space that you’re not tripping over your luggage every five minutes. What I really appreciated was the kitchen setup – actually functional, not just for show. The local Tesco is about a ten-minute walk if you want to grab some Czech beer and those amazing local wafers, though honestly, with all the restaurants nearby, you might not cook much.

The location is what really makes this place work, though. You’re literally surrounded by the spa district – the Mill Colonnade is practically next door, and you can walk to the Thermal Hotel’s outdoor pool in maybe eight minutes if you’re feeling ambitious. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle (welcome to European city centers), but there’s a public garage about two blocks away that won’t break the bank. The 8.6 rating makes total sense once you’re there – it’s not trying to be fancy, but everything just works. The check-in was refreshingly normal, no pretentious lobby scene, just helpful staff who actually know the area. I stayed during shoulder season in October, and while the tourist crowds had thinned out, the thermal baths were still perfect temperature. Fair warning though – summer gets pretty busy, and those narrow streets can get congested with tour groups heading to the springs. But that’s Karlovy Vary for you, and honestly, being right in the middle of it all means you can just duck back to your apartment when the crowds get overwhelming.
