You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked up to the WINDSOR SPA Hotel on Mlýnské nábřeží – honestly, the name sounds a bit corporate, and I’d been burned by overhyped spa places before. But this one actually gets it right. The building sits right along the Teplá River, and I mean right there – you can literally hear the water from some rooms, which is either soothing or slightly annoying depending on how light a sleeper you are. The location is pretty brilliant though, just a few minutes’ walk from the main colonnade where all the thermal springs are, but tucked away enough that you’re not dealing with tour groups marching past your window at 7 AM.
The spa facilities are where this place really shines – and I’m saying this as someone who’s tried plenty of mediocre hotel spas. They’ve got this whole thermal water thing figured out (well, it is Karlovy Vary after all), with treatments that feel authentic rather than just slapping “Czech spa tradition” on a basic massage. The staff actually knows what they’re doing, which sounds obvious but trust me, it’s not always the case. Room-wise, it’s solid 4-star territory – nothing groundbreaking, but everything works properly and the beds are comfortable enough that I wasn’t thinking about my back in the morning. Some rooms have those little balconies overlooking the river, though honestly the street-facing ones are quieter if you’re visiting during the summer festival season when things get a bit rowdy down by the water.
Here’s what I appreciated most: the whole place feels like it belongs in Karlovy Vary rather than being some generic hotel chain dropped into a historic spa town. The breakfast spread is decent – lots of local stuff mixed in with the usual European hotel fare, and they actually have proper Czech pastries instead of sad croissants from a freezer bag. Parking can be tricky (welcome to old European city centers), but there’s a garage nearby on Zámecký vrch if you’re driving. The 8.1 rating feels about right – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it does what it promises well, and honestly that’s refreshing. If you’re coming to Karlovy Vary for the whole spa experience rather than just ticking it off a tourist list, this place gets the balance right between comfort and authenticity without charging resort prices.

Wonderful Lokalita skvělá, snídaně výborná, pokoj čistý a příjemná matrace. Jediné malé mínus bylo, že termální bazének vypouští už v 16h a nikdo nám to neřekl, a tak jsme neměli možnost ho vyzkoušet. Abych nezapomněl, paní Simona na recepci velice příjemná a ochotná.

What could be improved: Unfortunately, our stay was disappointing. Half of the hotel was under renovation, and construction noise started early in the morning.
Dog friendly for 35€/night but the didn’t give us even the plate…
The parking was on the street, and people kept touching or checking our car, which made us feel uneasy.
At reception, they initially refused to check us in, claiming there were no available rooms. However, once I made a reservation in front of them through the booking.com, they suddenly found a room and let us in.
In the spa, there was an unpleasant staff member.
The bathrobes provided had holes in them, and by the pool, there were only four loungers available for the entire hotel, which made relaxing nearly impossible.
We also checked the breakfast and decided not to have it — the selection and quality didn’t look appealing at all.

It’s called Windsor hotel but they speak very limited English Large silent room with refridgerator.

All perfect. Hotel directly at the promenade, very helpfull and friendly stuff, will come again. Parking directly behind the hotel.

I met a man who is like a worker there , he was so rude in the elevator and had aggressive manners. Terrible

Good The location was great, exactly at the city center! The breakfast was satisfactory and the overall cleanliness was very good!
What could be improved: Unfortunately, the staff at the reception desk did not speak English and if my partner was not Czech, I would have been totally unable to communicate with them. Furthermore, there was no parking space available and we had to pay for the basic spa facilities that were limited only to a pool and a sauna. The breakfast could have been bigger and also the staff (referring to those who could speak English) should have been more friendly and helpful.
