Zámek Lužec Spa & Wellness Resort
You know what caught me off guard about Zámek Lužec?
You know what caught me off guard about Zámek Lužec? It’s actually a proper castle – not one of those “castle hotels” that’s basically a fancy building with turrets slapped on. This place has been standing since the 14th century, and you feel it the moment you walk through those heavy wooden doors. The lobby still has original stone archways, and there’s this musty-sweet smell that old European buildings get, mixed with whatever essential oils they’re diffusing in the spa area.
The location is pretty brilliant, honestly. You’re about 15 minutes outside Karlovy Vary proper – close enough that you can easily drive in for dinner or to check out the famous hot springs, but far enough that you’re not dealing with tour bus crowds at 7 AM. The castle sits on this hill surrounded by forests, so mornings are dead quiet except for birds and the occasional dog walker on the trails below. I mean, if you’re looking for nightlife, this isn’t your spot, but if you want to actually unwind without hearing traffic or construction, it’s perfect. The wellness facilities are where they really shine – the spa is built into what used to be the castle’s lower levels, so you’re literally getting a massage in medieval stone chambers. Sounds weird, but it works. The indoor pool area has these arched ceilings that make everything echo just slightly, which is either atmospheric or annoying depending on how many kids are around.
The rooms vary wildly since they’re working with a historic building – some have those tiny castle windows with thick walls (great for sleeping, terrible for natural light), while others in the newer sections feel more like a standard hotel. Staff seems to know this and they’re pretty good about explaining what you’re getting when you book. Parking is free and right there, which saves you the headache you get at most Czech hotels where you’re circling blocks looking for a spot. Food is solid Czech fare with some international options – nothing revolutionary, but the goulash is legit and they do a surprisingly good job with breakfast. The 8.7 rating makes sense; it’s not luxury-resort-perfect, but it delivers on what it promises. If you’re doing the Karlovy Vary area and want something with character that’s not right in the tourist thick of things, Zámek Lužec hits that sweet spot between historic charm and modern comfort.

Exceptional Excellent hotel, very beautiful and clean. Friendly staff. Delicious food at breakfast. I really liked the spa - jacuzzi, sauna, peeling and swimming pool - everything is clean and very comfortable
What could be improved: the hotel is not in karlovy vary itself, so if you don't have a car, it's worth taking this into account. uber and bolt don't work in this place. But there is a real forest and amazing air around
Very Good The room was spacious, comfortable and clean. The breakfast is amazing. The location is beautiful. The spa is charming. The hotel is wonderful.
What could be improved: The cleaning lady kept taking towels and didn't bring some new ones. We asked a few times for towels and it didn't happen. We didn't have enough soap and shampoo too.
Will return in 2026 Highly recommend for families and couples…
What could be improved: It’s been perfected. They treat us so well, in other words, ypu are left to enjoy yourself….
A great, pleasant stay! The staff and the location is amazing! A splendid place to use as a base for visits to Karlovy Vary or simply to hike, which we did every day of our stay. Strongly recommend!
What could be improved: Some of the facilities (jacuzzi) were not turned on despite several guests being in the pool area. The bathroom had some non-functional elements (the intimate wash). Some of the furniture would do with a make over (headpost on the bed, scratches on furniture).
Amazing stay, our dog loved it there, will be back. Perfect place to rest. Rooms are very spacious and comfortable, pool and spa are nice and relaxing, you can watch the sunset while you are swimming.
What could be improved: The place is in the mountains and roads are very narrow. You need to get used to them :)
Wonderful Nice place, comfortable beds, parking lot in front of the hotel; pool and spa area even if not very large, I enjoyed it a lot.
What could be improved: Breakfast could be better, there was not so much different types of food available. A bit thin walls, we could hear very well once someone was coughing in some other room... Bearing in mind it's a castle, the windows were not so big, it was quite dark in the rooms.
Nice experience Extraordinary location in the woods. Great castle details. Best sleep ever.
What could be improved: It was difficult for me to comunicate with the staff because most of them speak only German.
The Spa are is more on the functiona side than on the relaxing one.
Wonderful An amazing place like a heaven place
What could be improved: Spa is really poor
Wonderful The feeling of staying at such a beautiful "museum", almost feels like travelling back in time. The building, halls, and rooms with all the wonderful interiors, details are helping to make you feel being away from this century for a little while.
What could be improved: We loved the buffet and choices of food but thinking of some of my purely vegetarian or vegan friends back home, they wouldn't have enjoyed it as much for sure.
Unique experience This was really a unique experience. The castle looks amazing and everything is clean and new inside. The bed was very comfortable and I liked that they provided 3 different sizes of pillows. We spent all three evenings around the swimming pool area and it was never crowded, and the saunas were nice too. The parking area is quite big, so there were always enough spots to park. Breakfast was good and had plenty of options to choose from.
What could be improved: The only thing that bothered me a tiny bit is that the yard in front of the castle was completely frozen, so it was very slippery. I would expect them to use salt as a prevention, but maybe that's not something common in Czechia.
