Hotel Bazant

So I’ve stayed at Hotel Bazant a handful of times now, and honestly, it’s one of those places that grows on you. First time I walked in, I wasn’t blown away – it’s clearly a 3-star place, and you can tell from the lobby that it’s not trying to be something it isn’t. But you know what? That’s actually part of its charm.

The location on Slovenska street is pretty sweet if you know Karlovy Vary at all. You’re basically a five-minute walk from the main colonnade area where all the thermal springs are, but far enough away that you don’t get the constant stream of tour groups marching past your window at 7 AM (learned that the hard way at another hotel closer to the action). The street itself is fairly quiet – mostly locals heading to work in the morning, which I actually find kind of nice. There’s a little grocery store just around the corner that’s been a lifesaver more than once, and the tram stop is literally right there if you need to get around town or up to the castle.

What really works about this place is that it feels… I don’t know, unpretentious? The staff genuinely seems to care about getting things right, even if the carpets are a bit dated and the WiFi can be temperamental on the upper floors. My room last time had this weird little reading nook by the window that looked out over the courtyard – not exactly a view, but somehow cozy. The beds are actually pretty decent (I’m picky about this), and the shower pressure is better than you’d expect. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle during spa season – they have spots but they fill up fast, so I’d definitely call ahead if you’re driving. The breakfast is solid Czech fare, nothing fancy but they do these little pastries that are honestly better than what I’ve had at some 4-star places. I mean, it’s not going to win any awards, but you’ll leave satisfied and caffeinated. One thing I really appreciate is how quiet it gets at night – the building has good bones, so you’re not hearing every footstep from the room above.

Look, Hotel Bazant isn’t going to be featured in any luxury travel magazines, and that 7.5 rating is probably about right. But if you want a clean, comfortable base for exploring Karlovy Vary without paying resort prices, and you appreciate staying somewhere that feels more like a neighborhood spot than a tourist machine, this place delivers. I keep coming back, which probably says more than any fancy description could.
